Happy almost 2018 everyone!
As you all know, 2017 has brought a lot of fun, excitement, and some big changes in my world and I cannot wait to continue these adventures in 2018! But for now I wanna do a quick recap of the blog posts YOU, my readers, enjoyed the most this year! I know tons more people have joined us here since last January, so hopefully there are some pieces listed here that you may not have read when they were originally published!
I’ll be sharing my top blog post for every month this year – covering subjects like stepmotherhood, mind tricks to boost happiness, getting out of debt and more – along with a notable quote from that piece! And, of course, you can click the link to read the entire post if you’d like. (Check out last year’s version of this post here.)
Thank you so much for being here with me in 2017. I’m so freaking stoked to see what 2018 will bring for all of us! <3
January
“We live in this world of in-betweens, where any action we take will be considered “the wrong one” by somebody. Where giving ourselves distance and space will be considered negligent but bonding too much with the stepkids will be considered “trying to be something we’re not.”
And I’m sick of it…”

The Stepmom Letters: To My Stepdaughter’s Mom
“There’s such a misconception that stepmoms are trying to take over, trying to displace, trying to be something we’re just literally not.
But the truth of the matter is – we just want to have our own families. Our own lives. Our own unique ways of walking in the world with our spouse and the children who come along with them…”

The Most Important Rule in Our Stepfamily
“A question that I hear time and time again in families of all sorts, but certainly in stepfamilies in particular, is this:
Who comes first?
Who is the number one for your partner now – is it you or is it his kids?…”

My Number One Happiness Booster
“Although I know pretty much nothing about the science behind the optimistic/pessimist thing or any of that, I do know that I have one practice in particular that makes a massive difference in my life and the way I view everything in it:
I celebrate the wins. The tiniest bits of awesome are celebrated in my world…”

Why I Ask My Husband to Buy Me Flowers
“Recently I was part of an interesting conversation with a few stepmoms about Mother’s Day and whether or not women were recognized by their partners on this day. Some were acknowledged and others weren’t. I think either option is fine, as long as it works well for your family, but this did bring us into a tough conversation where one woman expressed that she’d wanted to be celebrated by her partner, but she wasn’t…”

3 Tips for Getting Out of Debt
“As I’ve mentioned on the blog before, Christopher and I are working on getting completely out of debt. And at this point, you guys, we’re pretty darn close! And while it feels like it’s been a long road in a lot of ways, the reality is it’s been less than two years of working on this together, and we’ve kinda been crushing it! So I thought I’d hop on here and share just a few things that have helped to keep us on track and jumpstart our debt free goal!…”

Introducing: The Stepmom Club Podcast!
“As a stepmom, I know how stupidly hard it can be to find resources to help you along on this crazy journey! I’ve been a huge podcast lover for years, so when Christopher and I started dating, I naturally searched for podcasts on the subject, but unfortunately came up empty! That has always stuck in my mind, and since the beginning of this year I’ve been working to put together a podcast specifically for Stepmoms!…”
August
“We are all confused and scared and deeply saddened by these events, but that does not give those of us with more privilege a free pass to be quiet. Use those emotions to guide your words, your actions, your paychecks, and your parenting.
Change doesn’t come from silence, it comes from action…”
September
“You can grieve the life you dreamed of while still loving the life you have. You can grieve all of “the firsts” without feeling hatred towards the one he had them with. You can love a child while still mourning that they have years and years of memories without you…”
October
“Oh my goodness, what an autumn it has been so far! The Savage family hit the ground running this season – we’ve had so many rehearsals performances, activities, and tons and tons of things in between, and it has been AWESOME. We’ve discovered a ton of new, wonderful things this fall and I’m super excited to share them with you all!…”

The Stepmom Letters: Get After Grateful
“The delicate balance of the stepmom life is not lost on me.
I have had – as all stepmoms have, I think – days where my heart seems to crumble and fight and struggle through even the most simple of moments. I have cried many tears over seemingly innocent comments that refuse to release themselves from my heart, no matter how hard I try to make them.
I know that heartache deeply.
But what good does it do to let our hearts stay there?…”
December
“It’s strange because I feel both 100% LET’S-DO-THIS-OMG-I-AM-SO-EXCITED and 100% OMG-I-CAN’T-DO-THIS-WHAT-WAS-I-THINKING?! But, you know what? Your homegirl has to follow her dreams someday, and now is a good time for our family. Since we’re officially completely debt free, we’re in a good place to try this work-from-home thing out and see how I like it…”
