Are you a “Word of the Year” person? A Word of the Year is one word or phrase – it’s your life, you can do what you want 😉 – that you choose to represent and encapsulate your upcoming year! It’s especially helpful if you’re a bit of an anxious or indecisive person like me, because it can help you focus when you’re unsure of what choices to make or what to do in the upcoming year.
As you all probably know by now, at the end of last year I gave my notice at work and decided to take on this blogging thing full-time! And, partly because of that and partly because of some of the plans I already have brewing for 2018, I have chosen my word for the year and wanted to share it here.
My word for 2018 will be Adventure.
The Merriam-Webster definition of “Adventure” is below:
This pretty much could not be better suited to my situation right now — I am doing things all over the place that are exciting, unknown, bold, and a little bit risky. And you know what? It’s actually super out of character for me.
I am a very safe person.
I get anxious about making the wrong decision and sometimes that can lead me to choose not the best choice, but the easiest one. The safest one.
And I’m over it.
For one year – 2018 – I am going to try my very best to choose adventure over anything else.
To take the trips. To take the risks. To try new things even though they may very well fail.
One year of adventure and I’ll see where it takes me.
So grateful to have you all along.
Feel free to call me out if you see me going the safe route.
(Lord knows I’m gonna need it.)
Sounds like it will be a most excellent year 🙂 Let the adventure begin!
Thanks so much, Dara! Can’t wait! 🙂
I hearing everyone’s words! I don’t think it’s lost that we just ended the season of Advent, or eager anticipation of Christ, and that your word is Adventure, embarking on a new or wonderful experience. I can’t wait to read about how this plays out for you this year!
Yes, Alley! Thank you! I’m super excited to follow along on your journey as well 🙂
