July has been an exciting, busy, wild month in our world and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Probably the biggest event that happened in July was a sad one for us – Jess left to spend five weeks of her summer in California with her mom. Although this is a positive, fun thing for her, it’s still totally sad for us because we miss her so much while she’s gone!
Since Jessica is always gone for several weeks during the summer, Christopher and I use this time to plan our “next honeymoon” AKA what we call the trip we take every summer. We even hashtag it, too – this year’s hashtags were #SavagesOnCedarPoint and #SavagesForth – both plays on words to the fact that we were going forth on our 4th honeymoon, and that we were visiting Cedar Point – an amusement park in Ohio known colloquially as “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World.” (If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve definitely seen some pics and stories from our adventure!) Before we got to the park, though, we visited a variety of hilarious and fun roadside attractions – including, but not limited to, a nightmare fueled children’s theme park in Lake George, NY and the house where they filmed the movie A Christmas Story! A separate post about our trip will likely be forthcoming 🙂
WHAT I’VE EATEN:
-I’ll be honest with you, during our road trip we ate alllllll the snacks. All of them. And all sorts of treats and things we wouldn’t normally buy for ourselves and, although I don’t regret it at ALL (It’s a road trip! That’s what you do on a road trip!) I was very happy we had also packed stuff for sandwiches to eat along the way. It’s such a simple, inexpensive thing to do – pack up a cooler with some lunch meat, PB&J, cheese, or whatever you love to put on your sandwiches, throw a loaf of bread on top and you’re good to go! I hadn’t done this before for us on a road trip but let me tell you, we were happy to have it!
-Lemonade! This summer has been SO HOT in New Hampshire, so Chris and I have taken to making a big pitcher of lemonade and keeping it in the fridge so we always have something refreshing and sweet to cool us off on these hot summer days. It’s been awesome and I don’t know why we haven’t thought to do this before!
WHAT I’VE READ:
One of the books I read was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! Now, don’t worry friends, of COURSE I’ve already read this book before. Lots and lots of times, in fact. (As a child I read each of the HP books up to seven times each. #nerdalert). It had been awhile, though, and since I did a Harry Potter themed summer camp this year (it was everything I could’ve dreamed of and more!) I decided it would be a good idea to reread the book our camp would be based on. And YOU GUYS – now I really want to go back and read the whole series again. Such a magical book, for sure.
NEW AROUND THE HOME:
This is not the most exciting thing in the world, but Christopher and I have a fairly small closet. Well, we have a fairly good-sized closet that starts to look very small when we try to fit all of my dresses into it…Oops. So I did what I always do – I searched amazon and found this little number and it has already helped matters. I’ve been slowly paring down all of the items in our home and I intend to do so with my dresses as well, but in the meantime this has worked wonders and given us the extra space we need!
CURRENT FAVORITES THIS MONTH:
Beauty: I’ve talked about this before in this post but the Supergoop Setting Mist Sunscreen is still the actual best. It was small enough to fit in my Herschel fanny pack (similar) at the amusement park. (SIDENOTE: If you do not wear a fanny pack to an amusement park you are missing out on a whole new world of convenience and joy. Seriously. I will never go back to a backpack or purse at a theme park. I won’t do it.) . Anyway, back to the Supergoop – it’s an awesome, lightweight, setting mist sunscreen that smells amazing, is super portable, and is just the best. I’m pretty sure I’ll keep buying this stuff until the end of time.
Podcast: My new favorite podcast is You’re Wrong About – a podcast hosted by Michael Hobbes and Sarah Marshall (who I went to Bennington with way back in the day!). The show tackles one topic per episode, with the hosts and/or special guests diving into well-researched topics to explain why what you think you know about something is probably wrong. Christopher and I binged a bunch of these during our road trip and left wanting more!
TV: No shame in my game – I watched the entire season of The Bachelorette this summer and I don’t regret it.
Clothing/Accessories: Honestly, I didn’t get any new clothing or accessories this month – I was out traveling most of the time and didn’t pick anything new up!
Random: This is sort of ridiculous, but I’m gonna live my truth over here and say it anyway. I found out recently that you can customize Popsockets on their website, and since I was getting a new phone case because my old one was janky as heck, I decided to get myself a brand new, “Gradybird Blog” Popsocket! I know it’s totally absurd and kind of cheesy, but it makes me so happy every time I see it, so I consider that a win!
So there you have it – my July in a nutshell! Have you found any new, awesome things this month? Or did you do any new, awesome things? I’d love to hear about them in the comments below!
