The “Have Dones”

personal

30 Apr

Right now it feels like all I can focus on is what I’m not doing.

What I should be doing.

What I haven’t done.

And the reality is that’s mainly because I’m not doing anywhere near as much as I usually do.

Never mind having “extra” time – I’m just not doing a great job of time management, task management, or really management of any kind at the moment.

But you guys: we’re living through a global crisis.

Not only is it okay to not be okay, it’s actually normal.

So instead of focusing on all the “haven’ts,” I’m taking this time to remind myself of what I have done.

If you’re struggling to feel like you’re where you’re supposed to be in life during this crazy time, might I suggest you make a list of your own?

Here’s mine…

I Have:

  • Kept myself and my family fed
  • Connected with friends and family
  • Stayed safe and kept others safe

There are other things, absolutely – tasks around the house, memory-keeping projects, and more that I’ve been slowly chipping away at when I feel up to it – but at the end of the day all that we need to get done during this time is keep ourselves fed, connected, and as safe as we can.

That’s it.

If we’ve done that, we’ve done all the most important things. Don’t let yourself believe anything less.

And you know what?

If you need help doing any of those things, there’s no shame in that either. Seek support, ask for help, do what you need to do to get through this time.

We’re all struggling, in our own ways, and if all you can do is survive? If your entire list looks like this?

I Have:

  • Made it through the day

Well, my friends, that’s enough.

Thank you! I really needed to hear this. I have been focusing on so much that I have 20 things going at once and can’t figure out which to finish first and then when none of them get done I think well jeez what did I do….but after reading this yes I HAVE kept my family safe, fed, and for the most part happy and I HAVE stayed in contact with friends and family!!

SO sorry for the delayed response – for some reason I didn’t see the notification for this comment!

Hi There, I’m Grady!

I'm a wife and stepmama obsessed with dresses, planners, and iced coffees bigger than my head.

I believe that having a happy, healthy stepfamily is not only possible but necessary for stepmom sanity, and I hope to provide a place of support for stepmoms who need to know someone else just
"gets it.”
