What Life Looks Like Right Now

personal

30 Jun

I tried working on a post about 25 times this week and each time I just couldn’t make the words work well together.

I couldn’t say what I needed to say. I couldn’t manage to synthesize the struggles of this pandemic, or the anti-racism work I’m doing and will need to continue doing for the rest of my life, or the complications of stepmom life, or really anything.

I mentioned this a few months ago, but I just can’t seem to write anymore, you guys.

Not that I think it’ll be gone forever, but lately it’s just all felt like too much.

But what I knew I could write about was what our lives are looking like right now, since I’ve been pretty quiet around these parts as of late.

Christopher has been able to work from home no problem, which we are so incredibly grateful for. Jess finished 10th grade with distance learning and is now enjoying her socially-distanced summer as much as she can. She also turned 16 last week!

As for me, well I’m hanging in there. I’m working at two virtual summer camps, both of which have been completely lovely, and I’ve been leading a phenomenal group of stepfamilies in a group at church who have all become truly wonderful friends.

I’m still very much struggling with not being able to see friends and family, but we also know how fortunate we are to be able to stay home as much as possible, so I’m trying to keep the faith and count my blessings in that regard.

I’ve also, interestingly enough, been extra into memory-keeping lately, so my scrapbook game has been OFF THE CHAIN. Seriously, I’ve been playing catch-up on old albums, telling new stories, and digitizing old documents and photos, too. It’s been a really nice to take this time to do something fun but that I view as productive, too.

And honestly, that’s really about it. Working, documenting, educating ourselves, and trying to keep our heads above water. That’s pretty much our life these days.

How are you all holding up? Know that even though my presence has been pretty scarce online, that I’m still here for all of you and thinking of you during this wild time!

Hi There, I’m Grady!

I'm a wife and stepmama obsessed with dresses, planners, and iced coffees bigger than my head.

I believe that having a happy, healthy stepfamily is not only possible but necessary for stepmom sanity, and I hope to provide a place of support for stepmoms who need to know someone else just
"gets it.”
